Stainless steel is a very common material in production. With the continuous expansion of my country’s stainless-steel market, the consumption of stainless-steel sheets is also increasing year by year, and thin-walled stainless steel sheets have penetrated into various manufacturing fields. Therefore, the welding of thin-walled stainless steel sheets has become an important process in manufacturing. However, the welding process characteristics of thin-walled stainless steel determine the difficulty of welding.

The most difficult problem to control for thin stainless steel welding machines is welding penetration and deformation: stainless steel sheets are less constrained, and local heating and cooling are used during welding, resulting in uneven heating and cooling, and uneven stress and strain inside the weldment. When the longitudinal shortening of the weld puts more pressure on the edge of the sheet, serious wave deformation will occur, affecting the shape quality of the workpiece.

Under normal circumstances, there are 3 main methods to solve the burn-through and deformation of stainless-steel plates during the welding process.

(1) Strictly control the heat input on the welding joint, select the appropriate welding method and process parameters (mainly welding current, arc voltage, welding speed);

(2) The assembly size should be accurate, and the interface gap should be as small as possible. A slightly larger gap is easy to burn through or form a larger flash;

(3) Hardcover fixtures must be used, and the clamping force is balanced. Points that should be paid attention to when welding stainless steel sheets: strictly control the line energy on the welded joint, and minimize the heat input under the premise of welding to reduce the heat affected zone and avoid the above defects.

The deformation of stainless-steel sheet argon arc welding is unavoidable, and only a step-by-step welding method can be used. The current used should not be too large, and the heating time of the plate should be shortened as much as possible to minimize the deformation of the plate.

The stainless-steel sheet is preferably welded by 0.1MM laser, and the size of the laser spot can be adjusted at will, which can be well controlled. The book is not deformed. Laser welding machine is undoubtedly the best choice to solve the welding problem of stainless-steel sheet!
